A San Francisco news blog quotes former Mayor Gavin Newsom as saying last week that ATT Uverse “is coming to San Francisco very soon whether you like it or not.” The service was recently approved by the Board of Supervisors, barely squeaking by last week in a vote of six to five. The project has endured a long delay because of a city-wide controversy over the construction and installation of outdoor utility boxes. Now that the measure has been approved, however, a city-wide rollout will begin as early as this month when service is scheduled to be turned on in parts of the Richmond District. Construction work will next shift to the Sunset District of San Francisco, and eventually throughout the entire city.
In the meantime, the Boston Business Journal reports that Verizon Internet Service claimed today that there have been multiple incidents of sabotage of its system throughout the State of Massachusetts. The report says that a major service outage resulted to some customers in Tewksbury and other communities. “We have discovered a number of cut cables affecting service on our networks, said Phil Santoro, a Verizon spokesperson.” The sabotage is attributed to a strike by two Verizon unions in the Boston area.
