I think most of us would claim that our moms are special people. I’m no different and honestly, when I look back at my less than placid teen years, it occurs to me that it’s a miracle I survived. This is an opinion with which my father definitely concurs. But my mom was a rock – at least it seemed that way to me. She was tough, immovable and impenetrable – nothing I did ever seemed to sink in, or so it seemed until I got to raise a teenage daughter of my own. Now I know the truth and I finally understand how much control and restraint my mom showed and just how much she really loved me. I wanted to find something special for Mother’s Day to say “Thank you.” I found it in the form of a Black Locust Bonsai tree.
My mom never had any time for gardening when she was younger. She raised six kids and held down a job outside of the house to help make ends meet. Now that’s she’s older, a garden is physically too demanding for her, but my mom always loved trees and when the Black Locust was in bloom I remember that she’d find a way to get away for a walk through the groves. I understand that the Black Locust is not a common Outdoor Bonsai tree, but it can become a beautiful and rather large Bonsai and I’m looking forward to watching it grow for her.
